Don't jeopardise travel cover by failing to declare medical conditions, holidaymakers have been told.
The advice follows a survey which found 15% of middle-aged travel insurance policyholders have tried to save money on their premium by withholding pre-existing health problems.

Others simply don't credit their medical issues with being serious enough to warrant a mention.

"Some have conditions that they consider so minor or that they have lived with for so long that they don’t think it will be a problem," Garry Nelson of travel insurer AllClear said.

"But the effect of changes in environment and climate upon conditions such as asthma or high blood pressure can result in an individual falling ill and needing medical treatment, and such treatment can be costly," he continued.

The average cost of a medical emergency claim in Europe is £5,348.
