It’s good news that cancer survival rates are now higher than ever, but coping with the diagnosis and treatment can be expensive.
While the financial implications of the illness are not usually the first thing people think of when facing a cancer diagnosis, Macmillan Cancer Support has identified that four out of five cancer patients are on average £570 a month worse off*.

There are a number of reasons for this, including having to stop work while having treatment, paying for extra childcare, higher household bills and additional transport costs to and from hospital appointments.

It seems obvious to us that stressing about how you'll stretch financially should be the last thing on your mind at this difficult time, which is why Union Insurance are offering a new Female Cancer Cover.

Put simply, this plan is designed to be a financial safety net if you are diagnosed with cancer in one of the seven covered female organs.

It pays out a £25,000 cash benefit on first diagnosis of a covered female cancer and also for carcinoma in situ of the breast (carcinoma in situ is an early stage cancer which hasn’t spread), cash to help you continue to lead as normal a life as possible, from diagnosis until you're getting better.

The policy also has a £2,500 cash benefit on first diagnosis of carcinoma in situ in any of the other covered female organs. Additionally, there are cash payments for time spent at the hospital as a direct result of your first diagnosis of a covered cancer, including a £50 inpatient benefit for each overnight stay up to a maximum of £4,500, and £25 outpatient benefit for each scheduled hospital visit, up to £1,000.

The covered organs are:
• one or both breasts
• one or both ovaries
• one or both Fallopian tubes
• the cervix
• the uterus
• the vagina
• the vulva

And if you need to make a claim, you'll also have access to a support team staffed by registered nurses to provide information and advice about living with cancer, including benefits, allowances and specialist equipment available to you. They can even arrange therapy or counselling and provide links to local and national support services.

You're free to use the cash benefit however you need – perhaps to help pay the household bills for a while, to cover travel costs to and from hospital appointments, fuel and car parking or return taxi trips to the hospital. Or maybe even take some quality time post-treatment to have a holiday without the financial headache – it’s entirely up to you.

We don't need to know your family history and there are no health questions to complete. Cover starts after an initial 90 day waiting period, and does not cover previously diagnosed cancers.

Union Insurance Female Cancer Cover can help make you financially tough enough to ride out some of the extra costs incurred while you're recovering. With up to £25,000 to fall back on, simple things like turning the thermostat up at home won't need a second thought. Leaving you free to concentrate on getting better...
